‘Like A Prayer’ was included in the trailer for the film directed by Shawn Levy
To convince Madonna to allow the inclusion of “Like A Prayer” in the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was not a simple task. In an interview with Sirius XM (via NME), Ryan Reynolds and the director Shawn Levy explained how they managed to secure the use of the music.
Levy stated that Reynolds and they visited Madonna: “It involved a personal visit to Madonnawhere we showed her the sequence in which ‘Like A Prayer’ would be used.”
“Also, let’s start with the fact that they don’t license — that Madonna simply doesn’t license the music, especially this one,” he added. Reynolds. “It was a great feat to ask, and certainly an even greater feat to use it. We went there and met with her, showed her how it would be used, where and why.”
The director confessed that the visit was like “meeting royalty”, while Reynolds admitted that he asked the singer’s team what he should call her. “Like, I’m allowed to just say ‘Madonna‘?” said the actor.
“She watched, and I’m not kidding, [ela disse]: ‘You guys need to do this,'” he said. Reynolds. The pair took suggestions from Madonna and went straight into “a new recording session” to make adjustments. “It made the sequence better,” he confirmed. Levy.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters this Thursday, the 25th.
