Ridley Scott fitter than ever
Holy Ridley Scott. The one who is undoubtedly the most erratic of the greatest directors – unlike his brother Tony Scott, a great director of constant action, but that’s not the topic here -, connects the films with a surprising energy. Don’t count on him to retire, nor to leave the past where it is: 24 years after his great success and his peplum masterpiece Gladiatorhas completed its sequel which comes on November 13, 2024 in the rooms.

And this Gladiator 2worn by Paul Mescal, a young Irish actor engaged to be married superstarthe British director seems very proud of it. As part of his promotion, an exercise in which Ridley Scott excels, he spoke in the columns of Empire magazine. To ensure that the public comes to discover his new film, the director of The Fall of the Black Hawk and of Napoleon so praised the action he staged.
The film opens with probably the biggest action sequence I’ve ever done (in my career). Probably bigger than anything I did in “Napoleon.”
A unique show in the Gladiator 2 ?
So let’s start dreaming about what this sequence will be. This is a great battle, as it has been the impressive opening of Gladiator ? This is the most likely hypothesis, given that seen the recently revealed trailer, Gladiator 2 seems to be largely recovered the dramatic structure From Gladiator. And it will show in particular a major naval battle on the edge of a besieged city. And the reference to Napoleonof which in reality only the battle scenes are preserved, seems to go in the direction of this hypothesis.
We hope so anyway Gladiator 2 will be superior in every way Napoleon. Released in 2023, it was a disappointment, as was 2021 Gucci Housereleased soon after his excellent The Last Duel. In any case, Ridley Scott seems to have had a lot of fun Gladiator 2embracing all available technology to bring his craziest ideas to life. Including this sequence with a fighting rhinoceros featured in the trailer.
I can have a computer read every molecule and wrinkle of a rhinoceros, then cut them out on a thick piece of plastic, just like a rhinoceros’ body. (…) I have this thing that can go 40 miles an hour, spin around, shake its head and growl. A two-ton rhinoceros with a man on its back! It’s still a lot of fun!
