Tonight on TV: Pierre Richard “involved in some antics” on the set of this cult comedy with 7 million viewers

The Goat: François Perrin’s Mistakes

Both as a director and as a screenwriter, Francesco Veber He has participated in numerous cult comedies. In fact, he is credited with the screenplays of The tall blonde with one black shoe (1972), from The Disturbing One (1973) or even The Return of the Tall Blonde (1974). After seeing Peter Richard recite his dialogues, the director decides to direct him himself The toy (1976), before finding it again for The goat (1981). A film featuring a recurring character by Francis Veber: Francois Perrin (of which François Pignon is a variant).

Here Pierre Richard plays a Perrin in whom life can be summed up a succession of bad luck. The man constantly makes bad choices and fate seems to be against him. His profile also interests Mr. Bens, the head of a large company whose daughter was kidnapped during a vacation in Mexico. Since the latter is extremely unlucky, Perrin could very well be able to find her trail by making the same mistakes. To accompany Perrin, however, Mr. Bens pairs him with a “normal” detective, the imposing Bell (Gérard Depardieu). The latter will not be at the end of his troubles at Perrin’s side…

The comedy of The Goat lies in the series of incredible situations that Perrin is a victim of, who despite everything maintains a smile and surprising confidence. All this in front of a disappointed Campana in the face of so much bad luck. The Pierre Richard/Gérard Depardieu duo works beautifully on screen. On set, however, things were more complicated than they seemed.

Pierre Richard unbearable on set

Indeed, moreover difficult shooting conditionswith the high temperatures and the arrival of dangerous animals, the two actors were difficult to manage for Francis Veber. Gérard Depardieu loved alcohol too much. While Pierre Richard was, at the time, more focused his romantic relationship with a young woman nicknamed Amour. As Francis Veber revealed in the show D-day ON RTLthe actor did not hesitate to do so joke with her every chance he got, even in a dressing room where Gérard Depardieu was putting on his makeup.

He was with Love in the make-up room. There was a curtain and we were doing Gérard Depardieu’s make-up. But behind it he was having fun, which meant that Depardieu had got the brush in his eyes. And he shouted: “Are you finished, you bastards?”

In addition to sharing his intimate moments in this way, Pierre Richard has demonstrated thata certain stupidity with his partner who had the gift of annoying Gérard Depardieu as much as Francis Veber. The latter explains it by the fact that the actor was older than her and therefore addressed her as if she were a child.

They were both joking at breakfast/ And it came out: “Do you want a little tutura on your toast? Yes, you want a little tutura on your toast.” Obviously we arrived quite tense, Depardieu and I.

Despite these frustrations on both sides during filming, The Goat it was a hit when it came out. The film was the biggest hit of 1981 with over 7 million viewers. Enough to motivate Gérard Depardieu and Pierre Richard to reform despite everything in 1983 I Buythen in 1986 with The Fugitives.
