Suffice it to say that the association of Stephen King and James Wan is enough to make you dream. And it will happen soon with The Monkeytaken from a story (The Monkey in French) published in 1985 in the collection Brume. The story follows Dennis and Petey, two brothers who find a mechanical monkey in the attic of their house. Their father, Hal, recognizes the toy that terrified him as a child. Because every time the toy came to life and hit the plates, someone around Hal died. The boy tried to get rid of the monkey or break it, but it kept reappearing and hitting his plates again.

A damn teaser from the director of Long legs

To make us wait while waiting for the release of the The Monkeyand after revealing several photos, independent studio Neon has revealed a first teaser (on the front page of an article). A video that focuses on the people involved in this project, showing in the background the famous mechanical monkey that comes to life in a disturbing way. Finally, the video ends with Theo James covered in blood in a red stained room. The tone is set! According to IMDBThe actor plays Hal in the film. The cast also includes Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany and Rohan Campbell.

Finally, it is worth underlining that The Monkey is directed by Osgood Perkins, a filmmaker who is little known in France (at least by the general public), but who has just had a great success. He is in fact the author of Long legsreleased in French theaters on July 10. Since then, the film that sees Maika Monroe chasing an assassin played by Nicolas Cage has garnered more than 90 million dollars. An impressive figure for an independent film that cost less than 10 million dollars. However, its Long legs he hadn’t convinced us entirely in substance, even if in form Osgood Perkins has shown that he knows how to create a suffocating atmosphere (see our review).

We remain curious to see what he will be able to do with this story imagined by Stephen King. The Monkey It is expected February 19, 2025 in France.
