Friday the 13th : the indestructible Jason
In the list of cult horror sagas of the 70s and 80s we find Halloween (thirteen films have been made to date), which began the Freddy franchise (nine films). The Claws of the Night (1984), but also the films Friday the 13th where the scary Jason appears. This bloodthirsty killer started the massacre with the first Friday the 13th (1980)before returning in eleven feature films (including one he shares with Freddy). Made iconic over time by his hockey goalie mask and his machete, the antagonist has not been active since the 2009 remake. But in Hollywood, you never stay in the shadows forever. The proof, since the saga Friday the 13th will restart.

Two years ago, we learned that a series Crystal Lake was in preparation. The idea was therefore to explore Jason’s Youth. Because, as we learned in Sean S. Cunningham’s film, it was in the Crystal Lake camp that young Jason Voorhees drowned in 1957. Twenty-three years after the tragedy, the camp reopened. Only it doesn’t take long for them to disappear one after the other.
The series is relaunched
Since this announcement, we have heard nothing more about this prequel series. Until now, with the implication now from the prestigious independent studio A24who also works in the cinema (Past Lives) that on the small screen (Euphoria). Second Expirationa new showrunner has been hired. This is Brad Kane, who worked on the series This: Welcome to Derryslated for 2025 on Max. He replaces Bryan Fuller, who left the project in May. Brad Kane is then expected to make changes to the script before production begins.
After his nomination, the showrunner and creator of this upcoming series spoke out his childhoodwhen he first discovered the third work of Friday the 13th.
From the moment I saw Jason Voorhees pop a man’s eyeball out of its socket (in 3D!) at age 8, I knew my creative paths would one day converge on The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of horror movies, and nothing defined the genre more than Friday the 13th. I couldn’t be more excited to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, especially with such stalwart partners as Peacock and A24.
Peacock remains the broadcaster of this future series Crystal Lake. In France the platform is not available, but its programs have been broadcast on other streaming services, such as The Continental: From the John Wick Universe available on PrimeVideo. There is currently no release date for Jason Returns.
