Everything everywhere and all at once : an unexpected success
Published March 2022 in the United States, Everything everywhere and all at once was a surprise success. Made on a budget of $25 million and distributed by independent studio A24, the feature film initially grossed more than $77 million in North America. In France, however, we had to wait until August 31st to find out. Nonetheless, the excitement overseas around this film that is nothing short of generous, which is accumulating references to popular culture thanks to the principle of parallel universes while telling a family drama.
The film follows Evelyn Quan Wang, a Chinese-American woman who runs a laundromat with her husband Waymond and has a complicated relationship with her daughter Becky. She also has to deal with the Internal Revenue Service threatening to close down her laundromat. In the midst of a meeting to prevent this, she sees her husband completely change his ways. It is an alternate version of Waymond who reveals himself to him the existence of a multiverse that he will have to save.
If the fans of Wonder are familiar with the principle of the multiverse, thanks in particular to Spider-Man Can’t Go Home (2021) and Doctor Strange 2 (2022), many felt that Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan’s proposal was on another level, both visually and in the questions of the protagonists and the themes addressed. Here is part of our review on Cinema Series : “Everything Everywhere All at Once fears nothing, doubts nothing and transports its audience a mind-blowing journey that will make you laugh, cry and above all amaze you“.
The film is available for free streaming on France TV

Despite that, Everything everywhere and all at once he has accumulated “only” 436,000 entries when it will be released in France (including its release in May 2023). Still a fair score for this type of releases on the French market. The fact remains that a large part of the public must not have seen Oscar for best film 2023.
