After touring the country with the play The Sound and the Syllable, Alessandra Maestrini (Take There, Give Here) and Mirna Ruby (Don Giovanni) star in the eponymous adaptation of the show by Miguel Falabella (The Choir: Success, Here I Come), which has just arrived on Disney+.

The news tells the story of Sarah Leighton (Maestrini), a young woman on the autism spectrum who dreams of being an opera star. In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilin partnership with the CineBuzz and the With you!the director and the protagonists of the miniseries reflect on the representation and visibility that the story brought to the community.

I still receive beautiful messages today, from mothers, fathers and people, who were very touched by the visibility, by the discussion about minds that are not necessarily standard minds, but deserve to be looked at and revered equally”, declares Falabella.

The author and director also spoke about the increase in productions with protagonists on the autistic spectrum. “Now everyone talks about the spectrum. After I wrote [a peça]he came ‘Love on the Spectrum‘, which is a wonderful series, both the Australian and American ones, about neurotypical people looking for love. What is the story of “The Sound and the Syllable”?

The Sound and the Syllable revolves around Sarah (Maestrini), a woman with incredible musical talent, but diagnosed with autism. Her dream is to become an opera star and, to do so, she relies on the help of her singing teacher Leonor (Ruby).
