Ultimately, this gamble, produced by Marvel/Disney, was a huge success. SO, Avengers era The MCU’s first billion-dollar film with a total revenue reaching $1.519 billion. In addition, the blockbuster received a large number of positive reviews, even earning an Oscar nomination. The beginning of an era of dominance for Robert Downey Jr. and his colleagues…

We have a Hulk

Hulk is perhaps one of the Marvel superheroes best known and most appreciated by the general public, but his stay on the big screen has not always been easy. After the disaster of Hulk in 2003, Marvel Studios decided to make a new adaptation in 2008, with Edward Norton in the role of Bruce Banner/Hulk. Despite mixed success, the character has an official entry point to join the Avengers. Behind the scenes, however, relations between Norton and Marvel are deteriorating. So much so that the actor was fired, which sparked strong criticism from some fans at the time.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige then set his sights on Mark Ruffalo, whose critical acclaim had risen significantly in the early 2010s. However, when the offer was made to the actor, he tried to convince Feige and his team to cast someone else in the role. Robert Downey Jr. and Joss Whedon will then have to intervene to encourage him to don the green suit. In an interview for the magazine VarietyMark Ruffalo returns to this episode:

I was scared. I was very scared. I still am. The technological aspect of the character made it really difficult to work that way. I struggle with that all the time. But my motto is to make fear your ally. Keep going to places where you feel scared or challenged.

It is true that the performance acquisition Mark Ruffalo playing the Hulk was news to him. He ultimately did very well, managing to integrate a nuanced game that suited Bruce Banner’s quiet, tortured personality very well. More than a decade later, he’s still the Hulk. And no one finds fault with that anymore.
