Thus, the mother of three from Gary, Indiana, claimed in 2011 that her family was subjected to terrifying supernatural events after moving into a new home. These events, often referred to as “demonic possession,” have given rise to one of the most documented haunting cases in decades.

The beginning of the story

It all started shortly after Latoya and her family moved into their new home. According to her testimony, swarms of flies regularly invaded their porch, despite their efforts to get rid of them. Soon, strange noises were heard in the house, including footsteps coming from the basementeven when no one was around. Shadows and mysterious figures were also reportedly seen and family members began experiencing sensations of suffocation by unseen forces.

Things took an even more disturbing turn when Latoya’s children began showing signs of possession. The eldest son was allegedly thrown across a room by an invisible forcewhile the youngest, aged nine, was seen walking backwards over a wall in front of several witnesses, including social workers.

The intervention of the authorities

Faced with these events, Latoya Ammons invited several priests to perform exorcisms. One of them, Father Michael Maginot, performed three exorcisms, including one directly on Latoya herself. During this time, social services were alerted and the case was quickly drawn media attentionparticularly after child protective services reported disruptive behavior among the children, who were sometimes described as “delirious.”

Local authorities, including the police, have also been involved and have conducted their own investigations into the claims of supernatural phenomena. Despite the claims of some skeptics, including doctors that suggested hallucinations or psychological disorders, the case continued to capture public attention.

The Legacy of the Ammons Case
