The Deep House just arrived on Netflix France
The Deep House is a French genre film, despite what the title might suggest. Released in the summer of 2021, this feature film directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, two directors known for their forays into horror (notably with In, Skinface or more recently The Soul Eater), stands out for its original setting, largely underwater. Three years after its theatrical release, the film has just arrived on Netflix France.
The feature film tells the story of an American couple (played by Camille Rowe and James Jagger) passionate about exploring abandoned places, an often risky activity known as urbex. Always on the lookout for unique discoveries, they choose to dive into an artificial lake in the south of France to explore a submerged house, believed to be haunted. But as soon as they enter the depths, they find themselves trapped in a place with a dark and disturbing past.
Already an international success
As early as October 2023 The Deep House had been a huge success on Netflix all over the world. The film, shot underwater, had in fact entered the platform’s Top 10 worldwide just a few days after its arrival online. A nice surpriseif we remember that the feature film was not very successful when it was released in French cinemas. Thus, arriving in cinemas a month after the reopening of cinemas following the health crisis, The Deep House had attracted only 200,000 spectators.
