Cine Marquise has an “atmosphere that is hard to copy” thanks to a new sound system, says director

We interviewed Marcelo Lima, director of Cine Marquise and CEO of Tonks, about what Dolby Atmos technology adds to the movie-watching experience

For many, the quality of a movie theater is a determining factor when choosing a place to watch a film. With this in mind, Marquise Cinemaa cinema located in Conjunto Nacional, at Av. Paulista 2073, in São Paulo, has a unique feature: the Dolby Atmos sound system — elected by Guia Folha as the best in São Paulo for three consecutive years: 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Available in Room 1 of Marquisethe system has 46 individual speakers — each with its own audio channel —, 14 of which are on the ceiling (seven on the left side and seven on the right side of the ceiling), which are capable of changing the experience of watching film productions.

In an interview with Rolling Stone Brazilin partnership with the CineBuzz, Marcelo JL Lima, director of Marquise Cinema and CEO of Tonks, spoke to us about what this technology represents for cinema and what it adds to the experience of going to the cinema.

In addition, he also gave us details on the immersive auditions for the release of albums/singles. Pabllo Vittar, Billie Eilish, Rust and, more recently, in August 2024, of the duo Fernando and Sorocaba and the singer Linikerproduced in partnership with Apple Music.
