Rebel crest : A Marine Takes on Police Corruption
Netflix found success with action film Tyler Rake (2020) and its sequel (2023). Explosive feature films that seek above all to amaze with endless shootings. We thought so Rebel crest It would be the same to see its trailer which gave the feeling of a meeting between Rambo AND Jack Reach. Only the new film by Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room, No man or god) is ultimately quite far from these references.
Rebel crest begins when Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) is hit on his bicycle by a police car in a small town in the United States. The police interrogate him violently under the pretext of suspecting him of being linked to drug trafficking. The presence of 30,000 dollars in his bag would be evidence for them, and Terry’s explanations, which state that this money will be used to pay his cousin’s bail, will be of no use.

Stripped, but released, Terry goes first try to recover the money in a gentle way. In court, then at the police station in front of Chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson), who will have the bad idea of underestimating him. Because Terry is a former marine with a resume more impressive than it seems.
A tense and well-crafted thriller
Rather than fall into the dissoluteness of action and doing Rebel crest a simple one revenge movieJeremy Saulnier focuses on the show a judicial system that no longer works. Chief Sandy Burnne has come up with a plan to put people behind bars for 90 days and bring in cash, like Terry’s bail for his cousin. The feature film therefore tends more towards the thriller side with a whole system of corruption to counter. The intervention of Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb), a court employee, adds a disturbing part of the movieas it will be directly threatened.
We still find inside Rebel crest some muscle passageslike the final shootout during which Terry uses smoke bombs to knock out the police officers. All this without firing a single bullet. However, this more sober approach by Jeremy Saulnier is surprising for a Netflix production. The platform too often tends to propose works calibrated on the same model and sloppy both visually and in terms of script. With Rebel crestthe streaming service this time has a really interesting and first-rate proposal.
Very positive feedback for #1 in Top 10
Jeremy Saulnier hasn’t been wrong since Rebel crest he came back home in the Top 10 of the most viewed films currently on Netflix France. Only three days after its release (September 6), the feature film was already available Ranked first. An encouraging start, then, and we will have to monitor in the coming weeks whether the interest of subscribers will persist. Rebel crest can at least count on excellent feedback from the press. SU Rotten tomatoesthe film has, to date, 95% positive reviews. On the public side the score is lower but still good with 74% of positive opinions. A decline that could be explained by this trailer that promised a pure action film, while the result is different. This has not prevented some from appreciating it.
I love REBEL RIDGE. This is not a gun-toting action movie, but a fully realized, deliberately paced crime thriller about our broken justice system. Don Johnson plays the bad guy perfectly. AnnaSophia Robb is perfect. Aaron Pierre is a SuperStar in the making.
Rebel Ridge is a fantastic thriller with a compelling performance by Aaron Pierre. The mystery is a bit too big and Jeremy Saulnier’s irritating direction is replaced by Netflix’s essential style. But it manages to raise the tension.
I know Rebel Ridge isn’t the shooter some of the trailers made it out to be, but it’s crazy to hear people say it’s slow when in reality this thing happens at the end of 20 minutes.
Rebel Ridget is available on Netflix.
