Throughout his career, Will Ferrell has participated in several Saturday Night Live sketches – and he regrets having starred in some of them

Despite having built a successful career as part of the cast of Saturday Night Livethe longest-running comedy show on American TV, Will Ferrell made some mistakes along the way, like dressing as a woman.

The artist participated in the skit “Janet Reno’s Fantasies,” broadcast in the 23rd season of the television show in 1997, to parody Janet Wood Renoa lawyer and attorney general of the United States who died on November 7, 2016.

During an interview with The Interviewpodcast of The New York Times, Ferrell explained how “that’s something I wouldn’t choose to do right now,” and commented how there are “a fair amount” of sketches from his time on the Saturday Night Live “where you would regret the choice.” He then took the opportunity to make a joke: “I mean, in a way, the casting – you kind of got that assignment. So I’m going to blame the writers.”

Finally, HarperSteelethe show’s former head writer who recently came out as a trans woman, spoke about the sketch in question. “It kind of upsets me. I understand that the laugh is a drag laugh,” she said. “It’s, ‘Hey, look at this guy in a dress, and that’s funny.’ It’s not funny at all.”

It’s absolutely a way we should be able to live in the world. However, with artists and actors, I like a sense of play.
