The Next Three French Series You Shouldn’t Miss

The Next Three French Series You Shouldn’t Miss

During the 26th edition of the La Rochelle Fiction Festivalwhich ended on September 15, 23 French fictions were presented in competition to industry insiders and the public, in the presence of the teams. The opportunity to discover in advance the next programs that should make people talk about them. Here are three that in our opinion are not to be missed.

Iris

What is he talking about? Iris ? Like everyone else, Iris has a head. Only her head isn’t exactly like everyone else’s. And neither is her mouth, which says things other mouths don’t. Her boyfriend, her cousin, a wine merchant, a museum guard… The list of those she pushes to the limit grows every day. But in the end, the first to suffer is Iris. And love? When you don’t do anything like everyone else, you find it far from clichés…

At the casting – The first series (6×26′) by and with Doria Tillier is co-directed with Jean-Baptiste Pouilloux and co-written with Constance Verluca. We also come across Iris (awarded for best 26′ series) the actors Francois Morel, Jeanne Balibar, Pasquale Arbillot, Anaïde Rozam AND Denis Podalydes.

Our opinion Iris immerses the viewer the singular, imaginative and jubilant universe of Doria Tillier. Iris is a school teacher, she writes a children’s book and her peculiarity is that she takes everything literally, she wants to understand everything about life and those she talks to. The tone is comical and unusual, thanks to the incisive dialogues and very controlled comical situations, the reflection also wants to be profound. Because these people without filters, whose brains are constantly in turmoil and who constantly adapt to the codes and norms of life in society, also suffer from loneliness. Doria Tillier brilliantly manages to make her heroine very endearing.

Where to see? Iris will be broadcast soon on Canal+

Flashback

What is he talking about? Flashback ? Elsa Letellier, a Forensic Police officer in Lyon, has chosen her career in homage to her father, Josselin, who was mysteriously murdered 30 years ago. As the case is about to expire, Elsa finds herself catapulted back to 1994, a few months before her father’s murder. She will take advantage of this “trip” to get closer to him and become his teammate to prevent his death, without ever revealing her true identity. Except that everything is against them! Their collaboration promises to be explosive…

At the casting – The series (6×52′), awarded with a special mention for the 52′ series, is produced by Vincent Jamain and Stephen Cafiero. Flashback It is worn by Michaël Youn, Constance Gay and Olivia Côte.

Our Opinion – This family crime comedy takes you on a journey through time with emotion and delicacy. Although the idea is not new, it works quite well. The viewer easily lends himself to the basic convention and enjoys the conflictual relationship between the father of 1994 and the daughter of 2024 and the way they look at each other. The comparison between the two eras is clever, both in terms of settings, situations, vocabulary and dialogue. A nice surprise!

Where to see? Flashback will soon be broadcast on TF1

Reports

What is he talking about? Reports ? The 95′ unit is inspired by the journey of Laurence Jambu, an extraordinary woman who will single-handedly take on the entire system associated with early childhood abuse to save her niece Karine, a victim of her own family. She won the case after more than 10 years of fierce fighting. The film is a magnificent love story that pays tribute to these two women. Laurence loves Karine like his own children. Karine will do anything to ensure that justice recognizes her aunt’s fight.

At the casting –Directed by Eric Metayer and written by Catherine Ramberg and Clement Michel, the film stars Cécile Bois (awarded best actress), Odile Vuillemin and Bruno Solo.

Our opinion – Reports modestly evokes the courage and determination of a woman worried about her granddaughter because of the mistreatment of her failed parents. Faced with a theme dear to the co-director with Andréa Bescond (It tickles), the viewer is astonished by the double fight of the two heroines. On one side the hostile reactions of the loved ones, on the other the distressing rigidity of the procedural institutions, while the life of a little girl is at stake. Reports It tells a lot How much remains to be done to protect children in France.
