Disney+ production becomes the first non-English language series to win Best Drama Series at the world’s biggest TV awards show
Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japana Disney+ production, made history at the 76th edition of Emmy Awardsthe biggest award ceremony on world TV, which took place last Sunday (15), in Los Angeles, in the United States.
The first season of the series had won 14 awards in the technical categories and, during the main ceremony, it won four more statuettes: Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki SanadaBest Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai and Best Directing for a Drama Series for Frederick E. O. Toye.
With the achievements, Shogun: The Glorious Saga of Japan became the first non-English language series to win the Best Drama Series category. Additionally, Hiroyuki Sanada became the first Japanese person to win an Emmy in the history of the awards. Anna Sawaidespite being of Japanese descent, is New Zealander.
