Nolan Gould25, grew up on the set of Modern Family — which aired from 2009 to 2020 — starring Luke Dunphy. In an interview with the podcast Dinner’s on Methe actor talked about the topic with the presenter and former series partner Jesse Tyler Fergusonwho played Mitchell.
“I wouldn’t change my childhood, I’m very happy,” he admitted on the show. “I got to be part of an incredible series. I know a lot of other child actors weren’t as lucky.”

Due to the routine as an actor, Gould revealed that he “hadn’t been to school a day” in his life, but did attend a public speaking course at a community college. He also intended to go to film school. However, after Modern Family win two new seasons, he would need to redo the selection process to continue with his plans.
At that point, I was like 21 and I was resentful. I was like, ‘I’m not going to apply to film school again.’ So I just never went. […] This closed a lot of doors for the ‘traditional lifestyle’ type. […] I find it hard to connect with people about things that everyone has experienced, like: what was high school like?
“So all these doors closed to a traditional lifestyle, but they opened really beautiful doors to a traditional but non-linear lifestyle,” he said. “I’m doing a lot of the things now that maybe people do when they’re younger.”
“So, I don’t know. I’m happy with where I am right now and I’m very grateful to be a part of the show. I wouldn’t change it,” he continued.
Even so, Gould He wouldn’t let his kids start a career so early. “I probably wouldn’t let my kids do that,” he admitted. “Although I have nothing against anyone who does, okay? Because I’ve obviously found a lot of joy and love through it, and it’s opened a lot of amazing doors, but it’s also closed a lot of important doors.”
