French cinema exports well
France is coming in force for the next Oscars ceremony. We recently learned that the CNC has selected four films for the 97th Oscars ceremony, which will be held on the night of March 2-3, 2025: Emilia Perez, The Count of Monte Cristo, HAEverything we imagine as light AND Mercy. A prestigious contingent, in short Emilia Perez AND Everything we imagine as light are part of the 2024 Cannes palmares With for the film by Jacques Audiard the Jury Award and the Female Actor Award and for that of Payal Kapadia the Grand Jury Prize.

As for the epic film by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, directed by Pierre Niney, it is a great critical success and a huge popular cartoon since when he has conquered more than 8 million viewers. What if Mercy appears more confidential, Alain Guiraudie’s new production fits into this group.
The Count of Monte Cristo candidate everywhere
While waiting to find out which film will be designated by the CNC selection committee to represent France in the race for the Oscar for best foreign film, The Count of Monte Cristo has decided to take the initiative. In fact, as revealed exclusively by VarietyThe film’s American distributor, Samuel Goldwyn Films, has decided to distribute it throughout North America and to campaign for the Oscars in all categories, including best film.
With its great critical acclaim, his three hours of epic adventures and its charismatic hero, The Count of Monte Cristo can in fact claim to stand out in most of the qualities that make up a film. Scenes, costumes, interpretations, photography, screenplay… It would have been a shame to consider it only in its capacity as a “foreign film” for the next Oscar ceremony. And the bet is therefore made that it can compete successfully in the “general” categories.
And maybe it will be like that tooEmilia Perez. In fact, distributed by Netflix in the United States, it will be available on the platform on November 13, 2024. But it will benefit from November 1st a limited release in North American theaters, specifically to “qualify” for the upcoming Oscar ceremony.
