Platform 2 is finally available on Netflix

After four long years of waiting, Platform 2sequel to the hit film The platform (OR El Hoyo), is finally available on Netflix today. This Spanish dystopian thriller made a splash when it hit theaters in March 2020 (in full confinement), offering a harsh social critique through a vertical prison where inmates fought for survival, literally at the top of the food chain.

In this new part, the concept remains faithful to the chilling universe of the first film, while expanding the plot and introducing new characters. A mysterious leader has now taken control of the platform and a new resident is immersed in it hostile environmentis trying to challenge this cruel food system. A simple mistake in attitude can have deadly consequences, and this unforgiving world tests the moral limits of the characters. The film continues to explore the central question: how far would you be willing to go to survive in such a system?

This second work promises to deepen the reflection begun in the first film on human nature and the struggle for survival. Through new characters, it highlights the growing tensions between prisoners, the system in place and the ethical questions each faces when pushed to the limit.

A new chapter, with new rules

Unlike the pure chaos of the first work, Platform 2 introduces a semblance of order. A self-proclaimed leader, nicknamed “Master,” imposed a series of new rules intended to establish a certain form of solidarity in the Fossa. According to this new code of conduct, each resident must choose a favorite dish when entering the Pit and can only consume that. It is also possible to exchange your plate with another resident, but any violation of this rule can be punished by death.

This idea, which initially seems right and fair, quickly takes a totalitarian turn. The character of Perempuan, played by Milena Smit, finds herself at the center of this new struggle for survival, together with Zamiatin (Hovik Keuchkerian). Together, they must navigate a system that claims to be supportive, but which, in reality, becomes a prison even more brutal compared to the anarchic chaos of the first film.

This new chapter also manages to reuse some elements from the first film, weaving an intelligent continuity between the two stories. Rather than settle for simple winks, Platform 2 effectively exploits some points left unresolved in the first film, allowing for the creation of a larger mythology around this universe.

The sequel is thus anchored in a dynamic that is both new and familiar, which once again immerses viewers in anguish and tension, while at the same time offering subtle answers to the questions left by the first work.
