For the first time in 20 years, a horror film will be banned for under 18s in France

Terrify 3 prohibited for minors under 18 years of age

After making a name for himself in the United States, Terrify 2 was released on French screens in January 2023. A good bet on the part of ESC Films which thus allowed the French public to enter Damien Leone’s delirious universe. In this saga, a demonic serial killer namedArt the Clown massacring innocent people with all their might. The debauchery of gore and the humor that emerges from this expressive yet silent antagonist (a sort of trash version of Buster Keaton) have made the success (in a small way) of Terrorize. This is demonstrated by the distributor’s desire to continue the adventure in theaters Terrify 3.

Unfortunately, if the previous work could benefit from a restriction to children under 16, this new film will prohibited for minors under 18 years of age. A decision taken by the Classification Commission, much to the dismay of distributors ESC Éditions, Shadowz Films and Factoris Films. This certification, in fact, reduces the chances of attracting an audience, which is already limited for this type of niche horror production. In a press release, distributors stated:

After an initial examination of the film by the classification committee, the opinion issued only recommended that minors under 16 years of age be prohibited from viewing the film, without warning. We can therefore only I deplore this unexpected final choicewhich will seriously damage the release of the film, although awaited by tens of thousands of French spectators and scheduled for October 9th (and obviously kept).

A first since then Seen 3

The decision of the Classification Commission is surprising to say the least given the tone adopted by the Commission Terrify 3. As in previous films, there are no bloody and violent scenes, but they do not appear surreal and grand guignole makes it more entertaining than shocking. Hard to see Terrify 3 a more disturbing work than its predecessor. And, in our opinion, we like a film The sadness (2022)already released by ESC Films and rated for children under 16, it seemed much more disturbing and violent (on-screen or off-camera).

Finally, let us remember that such an age limit has not been imposed on a horror film for almost 20 years. We need to go back to at least Seen 3 in 2006.

Despite this ban, the release of Terrify 3 stay maintained until October 9th. Hoping that the public is still there, at least in the same number as what was seen for Terrify 2 who had accumulated more than 70,000 entries.
