It’s what Citadel: Diana on Prime Video?
In early 2023, Prime Video launched an ambitious series called Citadel. A six-episode program cost the modest sum of 300 million dollars to the streaming service, in particular due to the numerous reshoots that occurred after the exit of the first showrunners, in artistic disagreement with the Russo brothers, from the production. At the time, the series hadn’t particularly attracted us despite its great cast (Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas) and the promise of an entire universe developing around it. The audience was still good and Prime Video validated a season 2. But before we get there, there is the Italian spin-off Citadel: Diana which will be revealed this October 10th on the platform. The first derivative, while they are expected Citadel in India, Spain and Mexico.
Rest assured, you don’t need to have seen it Citadel to get started Citadel: Diana. Almost everything is new here, from the locations to the main characters to the themes. The series, which mixes espionage, mafia family drama, betrayal and “fiction”, is set in the near future, in Milan in 2030. Eight years ago, the Citadel agency was destroyed by the enemy Manticore syndicate (seen in the first show). Throughout the six episodes of the first season, we alternate between these two post-Diana periods, a double agent infiltrated into Manticore.
Between revenge and power games
Moving forward on two parallel stories, Citadel: Diana reveals how the heroine, eager to avenge her parents’ deaths, was hired and trained by the Citadel to break into Manticore, and shows how eight years later she still has to play hardball to avoid being exposed by the company’s criminal. While we somewhat know his fate up until the “present,” the events of the past manage to maintain suspense and intrigue. The presence of Matilde De Angelis playing the lead role is wise. Aside from a perplexing haircut, the actress wins hands down.

At his side we find, among others, Maurizio Lombardi and Lorenzo Cervasio, father and son Zani at the helm of Manticore Italia. The first impresses with his charisma, while the second manages to stand up to him. The son wants to prove himself and prove that he too can make decisions for the company, while the father prefers to maintain control. They add to this conflicts with other familiesManticore France (led by Julia Piaton) and Manticore Germany, who are secretly struggling to recover a Citadel weapon. The mafia atmosphere with these power plays makes Citadel: Diana original, well punctuated by twists and several effective action scenes.
The series is available to discover now on PrimeVideo.
