In five films in the Lord of the Rings franchise, Hugo Weaving played the elf Elrond, one of the main characters in the narrative.
Elf interpreter Elrond in the three films The Lord of the Rings and two films The Hobbit, Hugo Weaving revealed that he has no interest in reprising the iconic role of his career, in which he also worked in feature films V for Vendetta (2005) and Matrix (1999).
It is worth remembering how, at the beginning of 2024, Warner Bros. announced that it would release a new film The Lord of the Ringstitled The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollumwith the involvement of Peter Jacksondirector of all the features in the franchise.
During an interview with GamesRadar+, Weaving was asked if he would return as Elrond. “Personally, I’ve had enough of it. It was great to be in New Zealand for a period of 10 years,” he said. “So I came back and worked with the same team [o diretor Peter Jackson e o roteirista Fran Walsh] in a project called Mortal Machineswhich was going to be his next big franchise, but it died.”
So I’m done with Middle-earth. I can’t imagine anyone would ask me to do that again.
“Elrond I was made to be immortal and I’m getting old. Elrond is one of the few characters, I think there are only three or four of them, that encompasses The Silmarillion, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit,” continued the 64-year-old artist.
“But even when we go back to redo certain parts of The Lord of the RingsI knew I was older than before. And film things in The Hobbit it was starting to get a little silly. I loved being part of this franchise, but I no longer have plans or desires to be part of it,” he concluded. Hugo Weaving.
