Jonathan Cohen’s wetsuit
These first years of 2020 have been marked by joyful madness for Jonathan Cohen. With the series The Flamebroadcast in 2020, it has in fact achieved exceptional popularity. The result of a very successful parody series in which he played the main role, but also of performances applied to cinema and television in the previous decade. Jonathan Cohen, gifted with an unpredictable sense of humor and remarkable working capacity, then took on a series of projects.

He also appears in four films in 2020, including Strange and Gripping Huge by Sophie Letourneur. In 2021 and 2022, with the Covid-19 pandemic reigning supreme, it is “only” in Army of thieves by Matthias Schweighöfer e At the same time by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern.
2023 is such a prolific year that it makes your head spin: we see him playing central or main roles Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, Sentinel, Daaaaaali!, A difficult year, Do ofand a supporting role in Like a prince. With uneven successes, these films nevertheless show the extent of his talent. And this is the sign that Jonathan Cohen is entering another dimension Venice Film Festival 2023 present Daaaaaali! as well as Do of.
Do ofa captivating and meta performance
For his comedy Do ofCédric Kahn, a filmmaker accustomed to dark thrillers, harshness and ambiguity, sets out to tell the adventure of a film shoot by focusing on different characters. There is the experienced but perhaps exhausted director played by Denis Podalydès, and a young actress on the rise played by Souheila Yacoub. Also, a very popular comedian who wants to change toneplayed by Jonathan Cohen, and a young aspiring director played by Stefan Crepon, who ensures the “making of” of these shots.
Bittersweet, Do of enters with ferocious humor behind the scenes of cinema to extract the pains and joys. Financial hardship and shenanigans, ego struggles, courage and cowardice: this dive into the oft-fantasized microcosm of the film industry proves captivating – and sometimes instructive –. In Do ofplays Jonathan Cohen a character as funny and sympathetic as he is cowardly and self-centeredand with which it assumes a proximity. As he explained to us:
When we talked about this role, the star of the film trying to do his “Tchao Pantin”, there were some interesting areas. Particularly the fact that I was the one who did a lot of comedy. It’s the same path in this film, I had that in common with the character. The inspiration for this character is, I think, mixed with the people he knows and, for me, what I could imagine of an actor like that. Someone a little vampiric, ready to do anything to be seen.
Very well surrounded, Denis Podalydès, Stefan Crepon and Souheila Yacoub provide remarkable performances, Jonathan Cohen then offers a performance of exquisite self-irony, in a comedy with penetrating gravity.
A shy box office but a film not to be missed
Released in theaters in January 2024, Do of it only attracts 194,727 spectators in theaters. A small score and a film that goes almost unnoticed, a few months after the sensational The Goldman trial by Cédric Kahn himself. But for Jonathan Cohen, later Hugea comedy that also played on the actor’s image and allowed him to successfully explore a more dramatic register, it is new proof that he is not just “Serge the myth” or “Marc”, but truly an actor with many facets with many talents.
