The Conjuring saga comes to an end

For more than ten years, the saga Evocation has established itself as an essential reference in contemporary horror cinema. Directed by James Wan, the first work, Conjuring: The Warren Filesit captivated audiences with its oppressive atmosphere and intrigue based on apparently real factswith famous paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. The immediate success of this film, which cleverly combined suspense, thrills and drama, pushed the franchise to new heights.

Over the years, Evocation was enriched with successful sequels such as Evocation 2: The Enfield casewhich tells of a disturbing paranormal affair in England, or the last part, based on a criminal case involving a demon. Also, spin-offs likeAnnabella AND The nun it allowed us to expand this horrific universe, each exploring a different aspect of the paranormal.

This saga continues to seduce the public a simple but effective recipe : Relying on seemingly real events to immerse viewers in palpable terror.

With more than 800 million dollars, Evocation is today among the most profitable and influential horror franchises in contemporary cinema, and will be enriched with a fourth and final part in September 2025.

James Wan says goodbye to the Warrens

Although he only directed the first two Conjuring films, James Wan is still very present in the production of the saga. It is currently filming Evocation 4in England, and published an image on his Instagram account to say goodbye to the Warrens:

It’s always nice to catch up with old friends on set in England. I will miss them. It’s the end of an era.

Titled Evocation: the last rites (which could translate as “last rites”), this new film is directed by Michael Chaves, already responsible Evocation 3.

No information has been leaked regarding the plot of this last part of the saga, but it will be, like the other three, inspired by a paranormal story inspired by the famous Warren files. The English title means “the last rites” in French, and refers to the ritual given to the dying to prepare their souls for the afterlife.

What will Conjuring 4 be about?

If no information about the plot of Conjuring 4 has been leaked, it could be one of the Warrens’ last cases, the story of the Snedeker family, which occurred in 1987 (i.e. six years after the plot of Evocation 3).

This investigation had already served as the basis for the film The infestation in Connecticut released in 2009 and which was translated into French as… “The Last Rites”. Lorraine Warren later stated that the film was very far from the story she had experienced.

The Snedeker family had moved to a house in Southington, Connecticut, which had previously served as a funeral home. Shortly after their installation, they said they were confronted disturbing paranormal eventsincluding apparitions, objects that moved on their own, and physical attacks. The eldest son, suffering from cancer, would have been the main witness and victim of these phenomena.
