Al Pacino explains why he started making bad movies

Al Pacino, monument of the seventh art

Al Pacino is considered by many one of the best actors of all time. He has appeared on screen since the beginning of his career, marking the spirits within The Godfather for what was one of his first films. What followed was a long career filled with memorable roles in iconic films: Serpico, Scarface, Heat, Donnie Brasco… Subsequently, Al Pacino began appearing in productions that were largely less well received by critics. Recently, the actor opened up about why he started holding back roles that he probably would not have accepted in a different situation.

The actor lost $50 million to his accountant!

Al Pacino recently wrote an autobiography, Sonny Boy. It will be released on Friday 18 October in France and has already been published in the United States. As reported by Varietythe actor specifically reveals that he has had to start being less selective in choosing his roles sincehe lost all his money. It’s the fault of his accountant, who gave away his savings from $50 million to zero:

I was broke. At the beginning I had 50 million dollars and then nothing. I had property, but I had no money.

The plaintiff’s accountant ended up being condemned by the courts. It’s gone seven and a half years in prison for setting a Ponzi schemea fraudulent financial agreement. For his part, after losing all his money, Al Pacino had to lower his demands when choosing a role. Mainly because he had an exorbitant lifestyle back then and spent lavishly.

In this industry, when you make $10 million for a movie, it’s not $10 million. Because after the lawyers, the agents, the publicists and the government, there is not 10 million dollars, but 4.5 million dollars in your pocket. But you live above that because you’re rich. And that’s how you lose everything. It’s very strange how it happens. The more money you make, the less you have.

Jack and Juliethe beginning of a change in the actor’s career

The New York native was in his 70s when he lost his savings. At that age, he wasn’t offered as much money as before to make the kind of films he made before. He then began to accept roles for which he was offered large sums of money. And this, even if these roles did not attract him. Starting with comedy Jack and Julie :

Jack and Julie was my first movie after losing my money. To be honest, I did it because I had nothing else. Adam Sandler wanted me and they paid me a lot of money for the role. So I did it and it helped me.
