“I’ve done much worse”: this is how Culte reveals behind the scenes of Loft Story

Worship : a little fiction and a lot of reality

Created by Nicolas Slomka and Matthieu Rumani, the series Worship embarks in the early 2000s to reveal behind the scenes History of the attic (2001-2002). An important program in the history of French television, as it was the first reality show in France, adapted from the Dutch show Big Brother. In the Prime Video series we discover a production company, behind programs such as The Bigdil OR Exclusive. Faced with financial difficulties, the company must find a new concept to sell to chains as quickly as possible. It will be History of the attic. But before the launch on M6, nothing will be easy, and things won’t get much better while the show airs.

Worship mixes fiction and reality by presenting both real people (such as the owners of the loft, including Loana Petrucciani, or Benjamin Castaldi) and characters imagined by the screenwriters. On the production side, Endemol was renamed PPP and Alexia Laroche-Joubert (producer of the show) goes by the name here Isabelle de Rochechouart (played by Anaïde Rozam). A clear choice on the part of Nicolas Slomka and Matthieu Rumani, who wanted to maintain the freedom to romanticise the lives of people who do not appear in History of the attic. So if they claim to have stayed a lot close to reality regarding their representation of Loana (“almost 100% reality.“), the character of Isabelle, central to Worshipwe worked to stick to the dramatic issues. Nicolas Slomka explained it to us in an interview.

At that time, Alexia Laroche Joubert’s parents were not against the Loft, but fully supported their daughter. She was also almost married. We preferred to give the character a love story with a journalist because we wanted the embodiment of another form of intelligentsia who criticized her work, and for dramatic reasons. AS there was no point in leaving your real name if we were going to tell such different things about his private life.

Alexia Laroche-Joubert’s portrayal in the series

Despite these changes, the authors remained close to the reality of events. They have therefore been extensively documented as “as authentic as possible about the business elements“. The same goes for the relationship between Isabelle and Loana (Marie Colomb)which evolves over the course of the episodes, as the candidate seems to suffer more and more in the loft. According to Matthieu Romani this relationship would be “pretty close to what happened between Alexia and Loana“.

It’s not so much a question of sisterhood, more an awareness of one’s responsibility. A more maternal than feminist instinct at that moment, because Isabelle is a parental figure of the loft owners.

Naturally, Alexia Laroche-Joubert was consulted Worship (co-produced the series), after years of development. A first scenario had already been presented by Isabelle de Rochechouart with “a strong character and quite violent contradictionsWhich didn’t cause any problems for the former director of Academy of the Stars (2001-2008), who even revealed that he had “done much worse“Be able to get to the end History of the atticMatthieu Romani told us.

When Alexia read it we were a little shocked. We said to ourselves, “Is this going to fall on us?” And on the contrary, we were very surprised. Seeing our first treatment, he told us: “Okay, it’s great, but I’ve done much worse”. Then we realized that we had free hands. He revealed to us things we couldn’t imagine, the sacrifices made, the low blows, the betrayals, things that are a gold mine for narrative and a strong character.

History of the attic seen until 2024

Alexia Laroche-Joubert therefore did not ask to smooth out this character who was inspired by her. On the contrary, it helped the writers bring him closer “something quite muscular“. Isabelle is really interesting Worshipbecause it evolved in an era when the place of women in this environment was even more difficult than today. Of course it is until 2024 that Nicolas Slomka and Matthieu Rumani wanted to observe the society of 2001. They thus remind us to what extent Loft Story has “objectified women, especially Loana“. But this story is also that”of a producer who was only 31 years old and was in a virile environment“.

Finally, in addition to raising the question of the place of women, Worship it proves it History of the attic it was the first stone”of a society of image and self-presentation“. For the first time, cameras were pointed at strangers in a form of everyday life. That continued to develop into what it is today.”what we see from social networks and influencers“.

Worship It can be seen on Prime Video from October 18th. Below the trailer:
