Stranger Things: Noah Schnapp Confirms Will Is Gay: ‘In Love With Mike’

According to Noah Schnapp, Will’s sexuality is indicated since the first season of Stranger Things

After much fan speculation and some hints of the script for Stranger Things, Noah Schnapp confirms that Will, a character played by him in the series, is gay. The actor talked about it during an interview with Variety.

schnapp also discussed navigating the character’s personal identity – and explained how the sexuality of Will It’s been suggested for a long time in the series. “It’s been pretty clear this season that he has feelings for Mike (Finn Wolfhard),” he stated. “They’ve been intentionally pulling that out the last few seasons. Even in the first season they hinted at it and slowly grew that storyline.”

Then the star said how Will “loves his best friend, but struggles to know if he will be accepted or not, and feels like a mistake, like he doesn’t belong. Will always felt that way.”

Noah Schnapp said that a scene responsible for indicating the character’s feelings for Mike was shown last season when Will comforts the best friend about the relationship with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown).

Why did it take so long to confirm Will’s sexuality?

In previous interviews, Noah Schnapp avoided confirming the sexuality of Will, and used to speak as it depended on “the audience’s interpretation.” To Variety, the actor revealed how he said it to avoid spoilers.

“It’s always been there, but you never knew, is it just him growing slower than his friends? Now that he’s aged, they’ve made it a very real and obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he’s gay and he loves Mike,” said.

The artist also praised the way in which Will’s sexuality was brought to the screen: “I think it’s done so beautifully, because it’s so easy to make a character suddenly gay.”
