“It’s incredibly important for underrepresented writers of all backgrounds to tell their own stories, and we’re excited to provide a higher level of access through this new show,” Starz President of Original Programming Kathryn Busby said in a statement.
Ten writers will be selected to participate in the first phase of the intensive, which will run from August 22 to September 16 and will feature guidance from industry professionals to help them develop the treatment and tone of their episode. In the meantime, a panel of judges will select four of these writers to move on to the second phase, which will take place from October 3 to November 4, where they will write a complete specification script for the episode, with support from executives and creatives. Industry.
“Through programs and partnerships like these, NALIP delivers on its commitment to correcting the systemic underrepresentation and chronic misrepresentation of Latinx and all BIPOC communities on screen and behind the scenes,” said NALIP President Carla Pita Loor, in an email.
Applications will be intensively accepted on July 29 on the Coverfly portal.
“Providing opportunities like Starz’s #TakeTheLead writer-intensive is critical to the missions of the NFMLA and NALIP. Both of our shows run year-round to develop opportunities for untapped talent, and we couldn’t be more excited to launch this premium television writers show in partnership with Starz,” said NFMLA co-founder and CEO Larry LaBoe. “The show combines education, outreach and a real opportunity in the writers’ room, and it’s the kind of access the next generation really needs.
