Martin Lawrence directs AMC’s “Demascus.”

Martin Lawrence returns to television.

The comedian and actor has joined the upcoming AMC series. Damascus in a recurring role. He appears in three of the show’s six episodes as the main character’s Uncle Forty (Okieriete Onaodowan).

The role marks Lawrence’s first television role since the 2014 comedy. partnerswhere he starred opposite Kelsey Grammer.

Damascus The stars are monochromatic (Station 19, Hamilton) as a 33-year-old black man who embarks on a journey of self-discovery using innovative new technology that allows him to experience different versions of his own life. The series follows the main character both in this alternate reality and in his everyday life.

Lawrence’s uncle forty is a man who has seen better days and is in poor health. However, he is the self-proclaimed patriarch of the family and is eager to be recognized as such.

The show’s regular cast also includes Janet Hubert, Caleb Eberhardt, and Shakira Janay Pai.

AMC ordered Damascus in February as part of their scripted development model on the series. Playwright Terrance Arwell Chisholm (Boomerang) created the series and will co-showrunner with Kirk Moore (For Life, American Crime). They are executive producers with Mark Johnson of Gran Via Productions (You better call Saul.). Myki Bajaj from Gran Via is the producer; Solvan “Slick” Naim (Hello) will direct and produce the first two episodes.

Lawrence has joined the cast of their 1990s comedy martin for a special meeting at BET in June. Among his recent films are bad boys for life s beach bum. It features UTA, Artists First and Gang Tire.
