The end of Attack on Titan It’s on Netflix
For ten years, Attack on Titan it was one of the most commented anime. Launched in 2013, the adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s manga of the same name quickly became popular a phenomenonthanks to a terrifying plot full of twists and turns and modern and dynamic animation. It must be said that Wit Studio was able to take the time necessary to produce each episode as best as possible (before MAPPA took over season 4). Much to the dismay of fans who sometimes had to wait several years between two seasons. The last one was even broadcast over a period of three years, divided into several parts.

Between December 2020 and the end of March 2021, 16 episodes of Part 1 were released online. Part 2 then arrived in January 2022 with 12 episodes airing until April 2022. The third and final part finally arrived on March 4, 2023 with the first stage of the final chapter, and the second on November 5, 2023. In France, Crunchyroll offered the series to its subscribers for the first time. The broadcast was postponed on Netflix, which has since finally put the ending of Attack on Titan online this November 1, 2024.
An increasingly dark story
This spacing between seasons and matches did not prevent fans from being present until the end. On the other hand, for many, the conclusion of Attack on Titan It wasn’t that satisfying. As a reminder, the story begins with young Eren who is one of the survivors of Humanity who protects himself from the immense creatures with equally imposing walls. When one of these walls is destroyed by a powerful Titan, the humans present are massacred. Eren then witnesses his mother’s death. Growing up, he does everything to join an elite unit responsible for fighting the Titans. He is accompanied by his friends Mikasa and Arminand will form connections with others. One day he discovers that he is capable of transforming into a Titan. From that moment on, the beliefs of human beings will be overturned…
Over the course of the story, viewers’ views of the characters have changed significantly. This is also the strength of Attack on Titan which, despite being coherent, plays with the empathy it can provoke the protagonists and antagonists. Those considered the “villains” of the story can ultimately be seen as heroes. And vice versa. Especially with the character of Eren, unpleasant and hateful for a good part of the story. Having become extremely powerful, it caused genocide before going further to threaten all of humanity.
An ending that is controversial
The conclusion of the manga initially provoked a reaction. A divisive ending which raises questions of morality. On social networks, such as on Reddit, debates continued among enthusiastic fans until the end Attack on Titanand those shocked by this ending. This has even taken on serious proportions since the author received death threats in Japan.
The debates continued with the airing of the anime’s finale, which could have been different. Hajime Isayama explained to New York Times that the end of Attack on Titan it was what he had imagined from the beginning. On the other hand, over time, the author would have been tempted to take another direction, but would not have had the freedom to do so.
It would have been nice to be able to change the ending. Writing manga should be liberating. But if I had been completely free, I could have changed the ending. I could have changed it and said I wanted to go in another direction. But the fact is, I was chained to what I had imagined when I was young. And so manga became a terribly restrictive art form for me, in the same way that the gigantic powers Eren acquired ended up imprisoning him.
Hajime Isayama has made it this far apologize to the disappointed fans ultimately revealing that he wasn’t at his best when he was creating Attack on Titan. In hindsight he would have”I enjoyed turning Eren into a good person“, But “doubt of having achieved itHowever, he was able to count on the support of part of the public.
