Party manager and hospitality professor Jeffrey Best of Best Events, who hosted Britney Spears’ wedding and Sean Combs’ BET Awards after-party, is opening his first restaurant in Beverly Hills. Set to open in late July, the venue will occupy a partially hidden space below street level on Rodeo Drive.
Best’s new offering, aptly named The Hideaway, includes nightlife veteran Sylvain Beaton (Warwick) as co-owner and actors Ryan Phillippe and Evan Ross as investors, the entertainment industry’s likely presence on the high seas stage and land of Mexico.
Says Ross: “My partners and I envisioned a space that could be a home for our old friends to gather for decades with new friends we haven’t met yet. We’ve created a vibrant restaurant and bar that welcomes guests from lunch until late at night..” Adds Philip: “Our team spent years developing this concept and fine-tuning every detail.”
Inspired by a teenage trip with friends to Puerto Nuevo, Baja California, Best tells THR Who wants to recreate the feel and taste of a small beachside restaurant they fondly remember, offering artisanal tortillas stuffed with fresh locally caught fish and other grilled proteins, all generously seasoned with salsa.
“It was the epitome of an ocean table,” says Best. “My career in catering is based on this idea that I have about the memory of food or drink… The memory of food, for me, is the basis of why I return to a certain restaurant or not. Why would you want this one place thing just because you loved it?
Best brought in collaborators Alex Moreno (former executive chef at Best’s Habana restaurant in Irvine) and Viet Pham (former executive chef at Best’s Firefly in Studio City) to lead the menu and named Julian Cox (Beast, Otium). A cocktail offering that includes a sweet and sour margarita made with white tequilas and reposado.
A unique feature that The Hideaway promises is the tequila table service: diners can push a button that notifies staff to bring more tequila of their choice.
According to Best, it’s his “dream to do this kind of restaurant,” which features intimate cabanas and a central fireplace in a generously sized courtyard, with design elements that hint at an Old Hollywood vibe.
In addition to the fusion of eras at The Hideaway, Best’s newest restaurant also explores a mix of different flavors. The wasabi guacamole sauce, nicknamed “guacasbi”, is a “cross-pollination of different things to add protein” experiment.
