With the help of readers, Rolling Stone Brasil recalls the main releases and chooses the best productions of the year
The year is coming to an end and, in December, the Rolling Stone Brazil recalls the main releases of 2024 and chooses the best new series of the year, which arrived on streaming services in recent months.
However, we don’t do this alone: month after month, we update our polls with the latest news and you, with each visit, leave your vote, resulting in a list of the twenty most voted productions. Now, the Rolling Stone Brazil gives one last chance to define what was the best new series of 2024.
Highlights of the year include Percy Jackson and the Olympianslong-awaited adaptation of the work of Rick Riordan; Avatar: The Last Airbenderbased on the successful animation; and the return of X-Men ’97which reintroduced mutants to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And speaking of the franchise… In 2024, the recently renamed Marvel Television brought two new series: Echo, spin-off of Hawkeyefocused on the then villain Maya Lopez reconnecting with their origins; and Agatha Ever Afteranother derived series, now from WandaVisionwhich brought another villain, Agatha Harknessfollowing your own path.
Some real stories were adapted for TV and shocked the world, such as Baby Reindeerabout a stalker who pursued the actor and comedian Richard Gadd; Menendez Brothers: Parents’ Killerswhich recalled the shocking crime of Lyle and Erik Menendezat the end of the 1980s; and American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandezabout the story of former American football player Aaron Hernandez, convicted of murder in 2015.
Brazil also shone in the field of series, with emphasis on City of God: The Fight Doesn’t Stopwhich continued the story of the Oscar nominee City of God2002; Love of my lifewhich marked the debut of Bruna Marquezine as a director, as well as the protagonist of the romantic comedy; and Sennaabout the idol’s life and career Ayrton Senna.
Finally, some productions jumped from the big screen straight to streaming: Batmana 2022 feature film starring Robert Pattinsongave rise to Penguinfocused on the character of Colin Farrell; and Duneseries of films with Timothée Chalametinspired the prelude Dune: The Prophecywhich has just arrived in the Max catalogue. Rolling Stone Brazil film special
Cinema is the theme of the new printed special from Rolling Stone Brazil. In a magazine dedicated to lovers of the seventh art, we interviewed Francis Ford Coppolawho turns 85 amid the release of his new film, Megalopolisa bold and million-dollar undertaking financed by himself.
Unshakable in the face of controversial reactions to the novelty, which took around 40 years to get off the ground, the filmmaker defends the cinema industry’s boldness in being creative and opens up, in plain Portuguese, about Brazil’s influence in his new film: “Alegria” .
The special also features conversations with Walter Salles, Fernanda Torres and Selton Mello on I’m Still Herea chat about soundtracks with the maestro João Carlos Martinsan exclusive list with the 100 best films in history (50 national, 50 international), another list with the 101 greatest soundtracks in the history of cinema, a warm-up for Oscar 2025 and the release radar of Globoplay, Globo Filmes, O2 Play and O2 Filmes for the coming months.
