When Keke Palmer was just 14 years old, she starred in the film The Longshots (2008), directed by Fred Durst, alongside Ice Cube
At the beginning of his career in Hollywoodeven when I was a teenager, Keke Palmer received some important advice from none other than Ice Cubeiconic member of the rap group N.W.A. and actor, about men in the entertainment industry.
In 2008, the two acted together in The Longshotschildren’s sports film directed by Fred Durstvocalist and frontman of the American rock band Limp Bizkit. Participating in the podcast Club Shay Shaypresented by Shannon Sharpeto promote the memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrativethe 31-year-old artist spoke about the conversation she had with Ice Cube on the film set.
“He was very nice, very calm. He didn’t talk much: a man of few words, but very friendly,” he recalled Palmer. “One day, they said, ‘Ice Cube wants to talk to you,’ and I was like, ‘OK…’ so they called me into a room and he was very far away from me and there were some bodyguards there. And I am [pensando]: ‘What are we going to talk about?'”
“He’s like, ‘I just want to tell you, Keke. You are a beautiful young woman and I see how kind and gentle you are to everyone on set. But, I want you to know that you are becoming a young woman, and often the way people see you – the way these men see you on set – is not the way you see yourself. So protect yourself, be careful and don’t let anyone take advantage of you. Know who you are and know what you have, so people can’t use it against you,'” the artist continued in the conversation.
Right away, Keke Palmer explained how grateful she was for the words of wisdom, but “I didn’t understand why [ela] was 14 years old at the time.” However, she described this moment with Ice Cube as “very important.”
He is a father; he is someone who has seen a lot in this industry, especially with young artists. I always remember that and I was always very grateful to him for that. I haven’t seen him since, but I’d love to tell him that it really stuck with me all these years and thank you for reminding me.
