A Marvel duo at the center of a chilling mystery
In The river of the windJeremy Renner (Hawkeye in the MCU) plays Cory Lambert, an expert tracker haunted by a personal tragedy. During a patrol on the Wind River Indian Reservation, he discovers the lifeless body of Natalie, a young Native American. Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers’ Scarlet Witch) plays Jane Banner, a rookie FBI agent sent to solve the murder.
Together they form an unlikely but determined duo. Jane must quickly adapt to the harsh environment and sociocultural tensions that reign on the reservation. Cory, for his part, uses his experience in the field to face an unforgiving nature and buried secrets.
Beyond the investigations, The river of the wind highlights the challenges faced by Native American communities: isolation, poverty and an often ineffective justice system. The film also addresses the disappearance of Native American women, a largely ignored but sadly relevant topic.
A thriller praised for its realism and performances
Taylor Sheridan, director and screenwriter of The river of the windhe has already distinguished himself with works such as Hitman AND Comancheria for which he wrote the screenplay. Here he tells a deeply human story in which suspense mixes with a touching social reflection. The snowy and desolate landscapes of Wyoming, beautifully filmed, reinforce the film’s heavy atmosphere.
Jeremy Renner delivers an intense and nuanced performance, bringing to life a man both broken and determined. Elizabeth Olsen, meanwhile, shows touching vulnerability as an agent who discovers the brutal realities of a world she doesn’t know.
The film was widely praised for its authenticity and its ability to depict the harsh realities of Native American reservations. It won Best Director in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, cementing Sheridan’s reputation as a master of the modern thriller.
