Streaming invested large amounts in preventing contamination by covid-19 during filming
Co-CEO of Netflix, Ted Sarandos revealed that spending on preventing covid-19 on streaming sets represents about 5% to 10% of the production budget. That amount would be enough to pay for extra episodes of Stranger Things (2016), one of the largest series on the platform.
“If we do it all over again and take this [gastos com covid] from above, we might even get some extra episodes [de Stranger Things],” I told Variety (via Omelet). In 2021, the budget for the production of films and series was US$ 17 billion.
“[Stranger Things] it was affected like any other because of the young cast and the size and scope of the production and the various locations we filmed in. The extended production time and cast care at the start of the pandemic were the main reasons,” she explained.
The pandemic was one of the main reasons for the “delay” in the launch of the fourth season of Stranger Things, which premiered only in May 2022. The episodes were divided into two parts and add up to 13 hours of content. While the third season of the series hit streaming in 2019.
When does Stranger Things season 5 premiere?
according to the brothers duffer revealed to Variety (via Marie Claire), last season’s plot is ready. According to the producers, a three-year hiatus for the most recent episodes happened due to the covid-19 pandemic, but the plan is to shorten this interval for the next chapters.
“There was a six-month hiatus during the pandemic when we envisioned season five and sent it to Netflix. The range should be much smaller this time, because we have the initial idea,” they said.
Despite the optimism, audiences should wait at least a year for the fifth season to premiere, as the team was 100% focused on finishing the fourth by the end of May this year.
