Eminem’s Daughter Reveals How ‘She Was Afraid’ Of Being Surrounded By Drugs And Alcohol Because Of Her Dad’s Addiction

Hailie Jade Mathers reminisced about her childhood as Eminem’s daughter and how she didn’t go to parties during high school to stay away from drugs

Daughter of Eminem, Hailie Jade Mathers opened up about growing up as the daughter of a music great on the first episode of her podcast, Just A Little Shady, which premiered on July 15. Despite considering that she had a fairly “normal” childhood, now that she is an adult she understands how far from ordinary parts of her routine were.

On the podcast, the young woman recalls how she invited her friends to meet her dad’s tour bus, thinking that everyone’s dad had one too. Or when she took a limousine to Disney for a “princess shower” with her friends.

“Even back then, we were so happy and excited, but we didn’t appreciate those moments like we do today when we talk about it and think, ‘Oh my God, that was like, amazing,’” she said. However, she also recalled what it was like to live with her father’s drug addiction.

Eminem admitted the addiction in an interview with New York Times in 2009. “I was the worst kind of addict, a functioning addict. I was so deep in my addiction at one point, I couldn’t imagine being able to do anything without some kind of drug,” the rapper said.

Mathers revealed that because of this, she grew up with a great fear of being around drugs and alcohol. On the podcast, she explained how she didn’t go to parties or drink when she was in high school. “I feel like everyone else was doing it, but I didn’t… I was so naive about it all,” she said.

The young woman explained that she also didn’t go to school football games, as young people used to drink afterwards and she thought that “if she was associated with someone who was there and was drinking, she could get in trouble.” However, she said she “never had any problems,” because she “never did anything wrong.”

“I was really scared… I thought if I did something wrong, I would be a horrible human being,” he admitted, saying he stays away from what “kids do in high school.”
