Before Fernanda Torres, other Brazilian actors and films competed for the Golden Globe
Fernanda Torres and the film I’m Still Here could be the first Brazilian representatives to win the Golden Globe in 26 years. The 82nd edition of the awards ceremony takes place this Sunday, the 5th, in Los Angeles, with Torres and the feature film directed by Walter Salles nominated in the categories of Best Actress and Best Film in a Non-English Language, respectively.

Actors
Four Brazilian actors were nominated for the Golden Globebut none of them took the prize.
- Sonia Braga received, in total, three nominations for Golden Globe. The first of these was in 1986, when she competed for the Best Supporting Actress award for the film Spider-Woman’s Kiss (1985). In 1989, she received the same nomination for Moonlight over Parador (1988). In 1995, Braga was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries, Anthology or TV Film, for the feature film Amazon in Flames (1994).
- Daniel Benzalia Brazilian living in the United States, was nominated for the award for Best Actor in a Drama Series, in 1996, for his work in MurderOne (1995-1997).
- Fernanda Montenegro participated in the awards ceremony long before her daughter. She was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Central Brazil (1998).
- Wagner Moura was nominated to Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series, in 2016, for the role of Pablo Escobar in the series Narcos (2015-2017).
Films
- Central Brazil (1998) won the award for Best Foreign Film in 1999. The feature film was also directed by Walter Salles.
- City of God (2002) competed for Best Foreign Film in 2003.
- Black Orpheus (1959) competed for and won the award for Best Foreign Film in 1960. Despite being recorded in Brazil and spoken in Portuguese, the work was directed by Marcel Camuswhich took the title to France.
- Pixote: The Law of the Weakest (1981) was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film in 1982.
