Perrynickname of Pericleslived in the pasture of Cornelis Bol Park, in Palo Alto, in the United States. Kiratli explained that one of the film’s animators lived in the neighborhood when his wife took him to meet Perry and other donkeys who lived there to inspire him in his work.

The animator took his team to the location to spend time with Perrywhich ended up becoming the model for Donkey Shrek. Check out the description of the animal given by Barron Park, where it lived:

Perry joined the Barron Park donkeys in 1997. He was originally brought to California to be a calming influence on the polo ponies — but instead of calming them, he pinched them! Like this, Perry needed a new home and found one in Barron Park.
Perry is famous for having served as an animation model for Donkey in the films Shrek. In 1999, animators from Pacific Data Images, a local company hired by DreamWorks for 3D animation, visited the pasture and observed Perryespecially their movements and gait, to learn how donkeys move.
Unfortunately, although Donkey was a hilarious and much-loved character in Shrek, Perry it was not mentioned in the film’s credits.
