As Marvel continues to expand its universe on Disney + with a wide variety of shows, the studio launched its first animated series last summer with What if …? The series saw the return of fan-favorite characters like Black Panther and Doctor Strange in circumstances that didn’t occur in the movies, but What if have they done it? On Friday afternoon, San Diego Comic-Con unveiled the first Marvel animation panel and, among many announcements, even more details. Spider-Man: Freshman Year, the animators revealed a first look What if …? Season 2. Speaking of which, get ready for more episodes of Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter!
we found out What if …? I’ll be back for a while, but during the SDCC panel, the creators of the streaming series shared with us the first episode of the second season, titled “What If … Captain Carter Fights HYDRA Stomper?“ Don’t worry, we’ll skip the major spoilers of the episode so you can enjoy it when it comes out in early 2023, but in a certain poetic symmetry it involves Captain Carter meeting Steve Rogers in the present day.
Just like Steve Rogers’ journey through the central MCU storyline with Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell’s What if …? Captain Carter arrives in modern times and befriends Black Widow in what appears to be the same year as 2014. Captain America: The Winter Soldier judging by her blunt copper hairstyle from this film. In the second season episode, Peggy and Natasha work together to defeat a menace called HYDRA Stomper, who turns out to be Steve Rogers. Except, as you can imagine, Peggy doesn’t want to lose Steve.
after What if …? episode, it’s impressive to see Peggy Carter’s story arc as Captain Carter continues to unfold in this Season 2 premiere. And as the speakers jokingly confirmed ahead of the surprise episode’s premiere, Nothis is not the same Captain Carter who was blown away by the Scarlet Witch Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness.
If you can remember What if …? She started with Captain Carter herself with the first episode of the series, which was called “What if … Captain Carter was the first Avenger?With that in mind, I can’t think of a better way for Marvel Animation to keep telling What if …? stories. Additionally, the episode features a familiar voice and character in the form of Rachel Weisz’s Melina, which was introduced in 2021. Black Widowso watch out for her among other cameos!
In addition to seeing the first episode of What if …? At Marvel Animation’s first Comic-Con panel in San Diego, the speakers also premiered the second season along with a trailer for the upcoming season. The preview featured Hela da Thor: Ragnarok and Valkyrie and Korg from Thor film, as well as teasing that one episode is based on Neil Gaiman’s alternate universe limited series 1602.
