Defense against Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello at the band’s concert in Toronto

Rage Against the Machine frontman Tom Morello clashed with security during the rock band’s concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.

In the middle of the band’s closing song, “Killing in the Name”, the iconic guitarist was accidentally hit by a security guard who ran towards an unruly fan who had entered the stage, according to the fan-recorded video.

Rage frontman Zach De La Rocha, who was out with a recent leg injury, continued playing the heavy protest track for a few seconds before realizing there was a problem and stopping the show. “Wait, wait, wait,” the rapper repeated, gesturing for his bandmates to stop performing.

When the lights came back on, Morello quickly stood up with a smile on his face and pointed to the crowd who were unharmed in the incident. After the musician returned to the stage with his guitar, De La Rocha offered a few words of warning to other concertgoers who had an accident on stage.

“Whoever’s smart as fuck, don’t try this again,” the vocalist warned, when bassist Tim Comerford interrupted him to ask what had happened. De la Rocha continued, “Sorry we’re great, we all love you, but don’t do that!”

Morello then instructed the band to start over with “Killing in the Name” and Rage finished his 18-song set.

RATM’s lengthy public service announcement tour kicked off with Run the Jewels on July 9 at a sold-out Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin, marking Rage’s first show in 11 years. The next stop on the walk is the KeyBand Center in Buffalo, New York on Monday.
