Netflix will soon unveil a new series that is expected to be a big hit among its subscribers. The story of The last samurai standing start in 1878, 10 years after the glory period of the samurai. Deprived of their identity and status, the latter are now struggling to survive in this new era. At the same time, a cholera epidemic appears in Japan, worsening their situation.

But an unexpected chance of salvation it happens for them. They are invited to participate a tournament called Kodoku thanks to which they can win 100 billion yen. The principle of the tournament is simple: warriors must fight from Kyoto to Tokyo, e the last survivor will win the bet. Who will emerge victorious? And who organized this mysterious tournament?

Many spectacular duels in the trailer

The trailer of The last samurai standing introduces us to the hero of the series. Nominated Shujiro Saga, this samurai decides to participate in the Kodoku to hope to win the huge sum at stake and obtain enough to take care of his sick wife and daughter.

Shujiro Saga is therefore one of the 292 warriors engaged in the mortal tournament. And judging by the trailer, the duels that the samurai face in the series are particularly spectacular and bloody.

“A new kind of historical drama”

The plot of the series resembles that of Royal battlea classic Japanese action movie released where students in a senior class have to kill each other until only one is left. The last samurai standing is based on Ikusagamia novel written by Shogo Imamura and illustrated by Katsumi Tatsuzawa which was published in several parts in seinen Morning starting December 2022. Shogo Imamura has given his approval for the Netflix series.

Junichi Okada plays Shujiro Sanga The last samurai standing. He is also the producer and choreographer of the series’ stunts. In a press release shared by Netflix, he explained that he wanted “reimagine” historical drama with the show’s director, Michihito Fuji. That was his purpose “to create a new kind of historical drama, which is also an action drama… Something that is made entirely in Japan, but for the world”.

You won’t have to wait too long before you can discover the series. His six episodes they will all arrive next Thursday, November 13th on Netflix.
