Travis Scott’s surprise appearance at Rolling Loud marks his first festival since the Astroworld tragedy

Travis Scott wowed the crowd at Rolling Loud Miami when he took the stage with Future on Saturday night.

While Scott has recently performed at several one-off shows, this weekend’s cameo was the rapper’s first appearance at a music festival since last year’s tragedy in Houston, which left 10 dead and many injured during his concert.

Rolling Loud members uploaded music videos of Scott and Future performing together, starting with the collaborative song “Hold That Heat”. Scott then performed a medley of his own songs “Antidote”, “No Bystanders” and “Goosebumps” on stage in Miami. He joined Future on “March Madness”.

Festival organizers already approached Scott for the lead role after Kanye West dropped out of this year’s festival, but the lineup failed. Instead, Kid Cudi took over as a last-minute replacement for the Friday night headline; Cuddy left the stage on Friday night after being repeatedly hit by objects thrown by the crowd.

The legal ramifications for Scott continue after the Astroworld fan debacle in 2021.

In May, Astroworld victims’ advocates said that more than 4,900 people were injured at the November 5th festival. In addition to the 10 deaths, the statement said 732 complaints were made by those who needed “extensive medical treatment”, while 1,649 complaints were made by those who needed less intensive care. Additionally, 2,540 were listed as “other”, meaning the extent of their injuries is still under review.

Scott currently leads the Primavera Sound festivals in São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile in November.
