No Oscar nominations for Deadpool and Wolverine
In 2024, Marvel revealed a highly anticipated film ahead of its release: Deadpool and Wolverine. Hugh Jackman thus reappeared on the big screen as Wolverinetwenty-four years after his first appearance in the role in X-Men and seven years after his last entry Logan. In this new film, collaborated with Ryan Reynolds’ character to face the threat posed by the mutant Cassandra Nova.
If it was long awaited before it was revealed, Deadpool and Wolverine it was even stronger than many had predicted. He realised a historic performance for an R-rated film, collectible more than $1 billion in revenue! Suffice it to say, Shawn Levy’s feature film has won a lot of fans. Gold, some of them are angry against Oscar voters.
Angry fans
We know the list of candidates for the next Oscars from Thursday 23 January. But Deadpool and Wolverine does not compete in any category. Through social networks, several fans of the film expressed their dissatisfaction faced with such an observation.
Deadpool and Wolverine so it wasn’t even nominated for best sound statuette. Nor that of the best visual effects. Which is a surprise, ever since Marvel has a habit of placing one of its films in the latter. The three Iron Manthree of the four Avengers or even Spider-Man: No Way Home for example, they were all in the running to win the statuette in this category.
Emilia Pérez leads the nominations
Instead of Deadpool and Wolverinethese are Evil, Dune – Part Two, Better man, Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom AND Alien: Romulus which were chosen to compete in the best visual effects category.
As a reminder, Emilia Perez received the highest number of nominations for this new edition of the Oscars. Jacques Audiard’s film is in production 13 categories. Including best film. Behind him, The brutalist AND Evil each received 10 nominations.
The winners of the 2025 Oscars will be known on the night between Sunday 2 March and Monday 3 March.
