In an interview, Brad Winderbaum revealed that Marvel’s new film series is much darker and more violent than other productions
New series of the Marvel Cinematographic Universe (MCU), Daredevil: Reborn promises to bring back everything that the hero fans have missed since his predecessor, Demolishingwas canceled by Netflix in 2018, after three seasons.
With the support of a legion of admirers, Charlie Cox Already re -spent how Matt Murdockthe Demolishingin Spider-Man: No return home2021, as a lawyer of Peter Parker (Tom Holland). In a short time, he still faced (and dated) Jennifer Waltersa Hulk (Tatiana Maslany), in Woman-Hulk: Defender of Heroes (2022), and still fought against Maya Lopez (Alaqua Fox) in Echo(2024).
Received with excitement by the public, the special appearances secured a new series for the vigilante, with two seasons already guaranteed. Now, after much waiting, the hero returns in a political drama full of violent, bloody and much darker action scenes than many plots already presented in Marvel’s cinematic universe to this day.
“It’s a darker and brighter tone for Marvel. We hope to match the tone of the original series. It is very similar to the tone of the comics of Frank Miller“, revealed the executive producer of the series and director of streaming, television and animation of Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaumin an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil.
For the news, according to the producer, there was a care to present the Demolishing To a new audience, but also bring references that should make fans experience more passionate about the character even better.
Furthermore, Winderbaum He stated that the city of New York, where the story was round, is a pillar for history, “different powerful people vying for control and a population of ordinary citizens who are trapped in the wake of this struggle for power.” Next, check out the full interview:
Daredevil: Reborn It is a direct continuation of Demolishingwho already had a passionate legion of fans. How do you honor this past and present and welcome a new audience?
Brad Winderbaum: We project the program to be something in which a new audience can play and know the story in its own terms. But if you know the original series, you may understand many of the references and bring a little more background history to it. But if you are a new fan, you can watch from the beginning.
What was it like to bring Charlie Cox, Vincent d’Onofrio and all these beloved actors (and characters) back?
BW:I think they are two of the best actors with whom someone could work with. And they embody these roles as fully as any other Marvel casts that have already been made. I would put the Matt Murdock of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk at the same level of [Robert] Downey Jr .. interpret Tony Stark. They have made these iconic roles and I think this is one of the most iconic rivalries in Marvel history.
In Daredevil: Rebornwe will have a very loyal demolisher to comics, a darker demolidor, like the original series, or a lighter and more adventurous version as in woman-Hulk: Defender of heroes?
BW:No doubt it is a darker and brighter tone for Marvel. And we hope to match the tone of the original series. The tone is very similar to that of Frank Miller’s comics. It is a violent series, full of action, but is also full of a very rich drama.
The series shows Matt Murdock trying to leave his dark past as a demolidor behind, just as Wilson Fisk trying to get rid of the king of crime. How do these internal conflicts affect their new journey?
BW: These are two men who are in disagreement with their own nature. MAtt Murdock He believes he can live in Luz as a lawyer who seeks justice. But soon the oppressive systems surrounding you will be called and will force you to use violence as a way to protect people who cannot protect themselves. Wilson Fisk Want to be a good mayor. He loves New York. But he uses violence as a bargaining chip and will eventually use it to get what he wants.
The confrontation of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk goes beyond the physical clash. It is also a political, ideological and very strategic battle. How was this developed until the action arrived? And what can we expect from the moment they give in to the darker side?
BW: It is a chess game between these two men. Both are incredibly intelligent and they do not use violence lightly. It is a tool, among many other tools, which they use to pull the levers of power in New York City.
Matt Murdock started at MCU in Spider-Man: No return homethen in Woman-Hulk: Defender of Heroes and Echo. We can expect special participation of characters from these series in Daredevil: Reborn?
BW: I would not expect MCU to come to the streets of New York that way. What is fun in Daredevil: Reborn And what was fun at the time I was a child and took a comic book Demolishing It was that he lived in a contained world of New York. It’s still the MCU. These characters are still out there, they are living and breathing in the same world. But the story we are telling is about New York City at this time and place and the levers of power in this city.
Daredevil is known for his intense struggle scenes. Can fans expect new iconic halls in corridors?
BW:Yes! Phil Silverawho is our second -unit director and stunt coordinator in the original series, is back and has created some amazing action sequences that I hope people enjoy as much as I am.
