An intense drama in the heart of the police world
Issued in 2020, Police It marks an incursion in Anne Fontaine in the thriller, a territory that had never explored before. Inspired by the novel of the same name by Hugo Boris, the film follows three ordinary police officers (played by Omar Sy, Virginie Efira and Grégory Gadebois) responsible for the escort of a political refugee (Payman Maadi) at Roissy airport, where it will be expelled. A mission that seems harmless, but that, on the path, gives rise to doubt in one of the agents: this man, delivered to his destiny, does he risk death returning to his country?
This moral dilemma, at the center of history, mixes with a more intimate drama: the relationship between the characters of Omar Sy and Virginie Efira. Among them, a repressed attraction that breaks out in a rare and touching love scene, bringing further humanity to this social thriller.
Omar Sy in front of a new scene of intimacy
Accustomed to solar and physical roles, Omar Sy has rarely ventured to the ground of sexier characters. Police He offers him the opportunity to explore another aspect of his game, in which the body speaks as much as the words. But this experience was not easy for the actor, as Virginie Efira entrusted Sunday newspaper :::
“Omar has made few sexual characters so far. He has this great body and this evident virility, but has an appearance of a child and is very interesting. It is not easy to share an intimacy with someone you don’t know. The idea is to play all this and go there … “
Anne Fontaine, aware of this problem, stages the relationship between the two characters with a sensitivity that contrasts with the image of Omar Sy. Through stealth looks, a contained tension and measured gestures, the film reveals it in a more vulnerable and mature register.
He himself admitted that he had fun playing this evolution:
“They are fifteen in these scenes. It was nice to have teenagers with Virginia who are at that moment. Sbuffes of real air. And it was also very interesting for me to play in this register I know, then slowly going towards another color, a maturity more in line with the man who are today. »» »
If Police It is not a spectacular film, it offers a singular look at the human condition and the place of the intimate within a police story. Now available on Netflix, it also allows you to rediscover Omar Sy in a different light, away from the roles that have made its success.
