You are probably familiar with Pixar’s animated films. But have you ever really paid attention to their posters? That’s what we’re going to check out in detail with these nine very zoomed-in posters…
Pixar, which was founded in 1979, was originally called the Graphics Group, a computer division of Lucasfilm, specializing in computer graphics techniques, working on films such as Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan, or The Secret of the Pyramid. It wouldn’t have its current name until seven years later, in 1986, when it was taken over by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, originally Edwin Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith.
Before getting into animation, Pixar was a high-end computer hardware company that never really took off and was quickly facing bankruptcy with millions of dollars in accumulated debt. In the early 90s, he decided to give up this activity in order to completely launch into animation, after several productions of computer-animated commercials for several brands.
In May 1991, Pixar signed a deal with Disney to produce three animated feature films. The first would be Toy Story, which would become a huge success worldwide, earning over $350 million at the box office. A success that would be proven over the years with three sequels and the latest spin-off Buzz Lightyear.
In the early 2000s, relations between the two companies deteriorated sharply, with points of disagreement between Steve Jobs and Disney CEO Michael Eisner seemingly reaching a point of incongruity. Finally, in 2006, the discussion was renewed after Robert Iger’s management announced the big ears and Disney acquired Pixar for 7.4 billion dollars.
Since debuting in 1991, the studios have had huge box office successes, with four of them grossing over a billion dollars: The Incredibles 2, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4 and Finding Dory. It is this colorful world that we are going to play with today, and more so with these many cartoon posters. Warning: We zoomed in a lot!
