Craig Thomas and Josh Radnor recall the first episodes of the series and analyze the vulnerability of the character played by Neil Patrick Harris

The series How I Met Your MotherBeen again for fans with the latest episode of the podcast How We Made Your Mothercommanded by Craig Thomasproduction co -creator, and Josh Radnorwho lived the protagonist Ted Mosby. In the program, the duo revisited the third episode of the first season of the series, originally aired in 2005, and shared a new view of the personality of Barney Stinsonlived by Neil Patrick Harris.

The episode in question shows Barney taking Ted to the airport to try to flirt women – one of the most caricatured plots of the first phase of the series. According to Thomas, the idea was precisely to turn Barney into an almost cartoon character.

They really followed with it. They followed with ‘make it a cartoon’“, he said Thomasremembering the work of the writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

But as he reviewed the episode, Thomas highlighted another element that caught his attention:

“The emotion I liked behind it is how pathetic this is, in a way. My favorite thing about Barney, in reassuring, is that he is a broken man.”

“I find it moving and touching to watch how needy Barney is in these first episodes. More than I remembered,” he continued. “He just wants Ted to find his idea cool and go along. That’s it. He just wants the TED approval.”

Josh Radnorwho plays Ted, also shared his impression by reviewing the episode:

“I had the experience watching and thought, ‘I wanted Ted to be a little more excited, and Barney was a little less excited,” the actor said.

Thomas explained that Lord and Miller’s original proposal was to make Ted the balancing point of the plot:

“He is kind of human being interacting with an animated character,” explained the co -creator.

Even so, Radnor believes the character should have thrown himself in the situation:

“I was like, ‘You should have boarded this. That could be fun.'”

According to them, as the series advanced, Ted started to better accept Barney’s crazy plans:

“We arrived more there later,” said Radnor. Ted softens. He realizes that some of the best nights of his life were created by this lunatic, and that it is better to go together.
