The Daily Show with Trevor Noah (Comedy Center)

The show’s 25th season, its fifth consecutive nomination in the category, one of its four nominations, originated in the new Times Square studio and featured guests as diverse as Anthony Fauci, Monica Lewinsky and Greta Thunberg. Noah’s profile, of course, was also raised when he hosted the Grammy Awards and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Last week tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

The British presenter’s show – this year’s only nominee, which only airs once a week for half an hour – has won the award six years in a row. However, with just five nominations, including writing and directing, but the lowest since 2015 and a number that matched Stephen Colbert’s show this year, could he be vulnerable?

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS)

It is the sixth consecutive title of the series (Colbert won twice The Colbert Report) for the season that saw him lose to executive producer Chris Licht to CNN, debuting a new title and saluting Stephen Sondheim shortly before his death. There are five awards in the co-host category (the majority), including screenplay and direction.

Saturday night live (NBC)

Lorne Michaels’ iconic series, winner of each of the past five years, is in its 47th season – the first from the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy and the last from Keith McKinnon, Aidy Bryant and Pete Davidson.
