Adaptation of the cultured environmental animation of the 90s will have script by Tara Hernandez and production of company by Leonardo DiCaprio
According to the DeadlineNetflix is developing a series in live-action of Planet Captaincartoon from the 1990s that marked generations with its ecological message. The project will have Hollywood’s Heavy Pesos Executive Production: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davissonby Appian Way, and Greg Berlanti, SARAH SCHECHTER and Leigh London Redmanby Berlanti Productions, in partnership with Warner Bros. Television.
Tara Hernandezknown for your work as a screenwriter and producer in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon and more recently as co-creator of the series Mrs. Daviswill be responsible for the script for the new adaptation. There is no premiere or cast confirmation yet. Netflix did not comment on the information.
The adaptation marks another high profile collaboration between Netflix and Berlantiwhich already develops for the platform a series of origin of Scooby-Doo. Berlantia consolidated name on American TV, is known to have built the DC Comics universe at CW, with series like Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. It is worth remembering that a film version of Planet Captain It was announced in 2016, with the actor Glen Powell (Twisters) involved as a screenwriter and protagonist potential. The project, however, did not advance Paramount and the rights returned to Warner Bros. Discovery. Powell is not involved in this new version, although sources say that Jono Mattco -author of the original proposal, will be part of the production.
The original series, created by TED TURNERHe accompanied five teenagers from different parts of the world who received magical rings with powers linked to nature – earth, fire, wind, water and heart – and together they could invoke the Ecological Hero Captain Planet to combat environmental disasters caused by polluting villains. The animation had six seasons between 1990 and 1996, with production of dic enterprises and later Hanna-Barbera.
