iCarly: Jennette McCurdy says Nickelodeon tried to bribe her not to expose abuse

Jennette McCurdyinterpreter of Sam Puckett in Icarly (2007), revealed in his book I’m Glad My Mom Died (I’m Glad My Mother Diedin free translation) that the channel Nickelodeon offered $300,000 for her not to speak out about the abuse. In excerpts published by Vanity Fair, McCurdy mentions having been harassed by a male boss, titled in the book as “The Creator”. Still in the description, it is revealed that Nickelodeon allegedly offered money for McCurdy’s silence.

“The Creator” also reportedly offered her alcohol when she was just 18 years old, during a private dinner before the release of Sam & Cat (2013), spin-off co-starring with Ariana Grande. During dinner, the so-called “The Creator” would also have massaged his shoulders without consent.

“My shoulders have a lot of knots, but I don’t want the Creator to be the one to erase them,” she writes. “I want to say something, tell him to stop, but I’m so scared to offend him.”, she revealed. McCurdy.

When Sam & Cat was cancelled, the actress says an agent offered $300,000 as a ‘thank you’ but that she knew it was actually abuse-related money not to talk about her experiences at the children’s entertainment company.

“My personal experience of the abuse of the Creator? This is a network with programs made for children. Shouldn’t they have some kind of moral compass? Shouldn’t they at least try to denounce some kind of ethical standard?”, asked the former actress. The company has not yet positioned itself when questioned by the Entertainment Weekly.

the book of Jennette McCurdy will be released in North America next Tuesday, August 9th. In Brazil, the autobiographical book has not yet been released. As an actress, McCurdy revealed to be ashamed of his career and his last work was the comedy film the freshmen (2018), available for rent on Apple TV.
