The problem that made Matt Cameron leave Pearl Jam

Drummer opened on his decision to leave the group, citing the three-hour marathon shows and his desire to focus on new musical projects

The former Defendant of Pearl Jam, Matt Cameronhe admitted that he was “having some problems” with the group’s rigorous tours, when talking about his decision to leave the band in a new interview with Billboard.

The drummer – that announced its departure in July He quoted the three -hour marathon shows and Pearl Jam’s “Tour” schedule explained why he felt it was time to move away. “This is definitely an art form in itself, being able to do this kind of show”he said.

Cameron also said he was eager to focus on different types of musical projects, saying:

“I’m in a moment of my life when I want to redirect my time and energy in a way that is a little based on what I want to follow as an artist right now.”

One of these projects is the Is this real?a new band that started as a tribute to the pioneers of Punk Wipersbut it will also record original songs that Cameron “has been composing over the years.” Cameron is the band’s lead singer and main guitarist and expects to release an Is This Real album? shortly.

Cameron is also working with the 3rd Secreta supergroup formed by Kim Thayilcolleague of Soundgarden; Krist Novoselicfrom Nirvanaand JON “BUBBA” DUPLEfrom Void. This band can also fall on the road soon, said Cameron, although he doesn’t do the same kind of show as Pearl Jam. He says:

“I’m at a point now where I want to make a 70 -minute breathtal set, and that’s what I’m concentrating now.”

Cameron emphasized that his decision to leave Pearl Jam was friendly, adding: “I definitely warned them in advance”. He continued to say that he talked to his former bandmaters, the guitarist Stone Gossard and the bassist Jeff Ament“A little” and that “has been good”.

“I hope we can get together again at some point to have a beer or something”said Cameron.

Pearl Jam’s future

Pearl Jam has not yet revealed his new drummer and is unclear when a decision will be made. The band currently has no tour dates scheduled for the rest of 2025 – except a show at the Ohana Festival in late September – and there is nothing scheduled for 2026 either.
